First native MMS app for iPhone under development

As you know, Mobispine is always working on innovative ways to respond
to market demands. We noticed there was a lack of an MMS on iPhone and
spotted an opportunity to test our wits. I'm happy to say that once
again, the Mobispine team came up trumps!

We're currently the only company ready to sell MMS on iPhone to global operators -- who will then offer the service to end-users. The service is integrated into operators environment with MMSC, provisioning and is to be approved by the App store guys of course.

Right now, we're offering the MMS on iPhone service to its many global operators who have the rights to sell iPhones in their markets. We're excited about the chance to enable MMS for iPhone users.

We're confident that operators will find the service easy to use and
profitable with an opportunity to expand messaging usage, improve subscriber retention and hopefully increase revenue. The service will also increase customer loyalty and recognition as the brand is displayed on the user's phone. The application is white-labelled and will be branded for each operator and distributed via the App store.

We're sure that iPhone users are awaiting this service with bated
breath! We look forward to delivering innovative technologies that
differentiate operators and ultimately satisfy iPhone user's demands
for expanded features.

As always, thanks for your support and let us know what you think.

This is very interesting; now what does the solution look like and how does it integrate into the operator messaging infrastructure. I posted some questions that would be great to find out some more about: http://www.optaros.com/blogs/mms-support-iphone-announced-telia-sonora

i dont think apple will approve it ! ! !

Thomas M L said...

Why do you think apple wouldn't approve it?

MMS is already on the iphone. Swirly MMS. It works really well.

We've been working on a native app at iphonemms.net (which will definitely work in the UK albeit at least initially in the roundabout way that you'll need to purchase credits seperately!)

I'll be biased and say hopefully O2 will pick up on ours ;) ... but competition has never been a bad thing :)

It's a great news, but does Apple allow background apps???... As i recall they don't.

How is this app going to work?.

Thomas M L said...

about background apps, you're right, but why would you need that?

if you're thinking of notifying the user that a new MMS has arrived; there are other ways to provide the MMS notifications - and at some point Apple should launch its push notification service as well

swirlymmx doesn't work for att customers.

There is supposedly some way to get MMS active on the iphone sms plan but it involves a bit of work and misdirection.

Thank you for answering the call of millions of iPhone users around the world! We want MMS! Please package and ship to the U.S. as soon as possible.

SwirlyMMS works for all jailbroken phones, AT&T or T-mobile

How can you say that this is the first native MMS app for the iPhone? Which planet are you on?
SwirlyMMS has been out for almost a year!
And SwirlyMMS is a true native MMS app - in contrast to this quasi-"solution".

This is great news, please get it to O2 Ireland, even though I use SwirlyMMS (installed at least), just can't get it to work - roll on this new app!!

Do you guys have an estimated date for this app to launch. I would gladly pay for MMS on my iPhone. Please say it will be out by XMAS. Please get it in the US AND FOR ATT. Im tired of emailing pics to verizon numbers and having them rejected!!!

http://www.iphonemms.net is FAR BETTER than yours!!!

Tim said...

To the anonymous douchebag claiming that the MMS webapp is better...

Have you got your hands on the Mobispine's app? Did I hear you say no?

Did you fail to realize that the app you said is better is only for those in the UK? Did you realize that it's not an iPhone app but a webapp?

Just wait for Mobispine/the carriers to release theirs and then pass judgement.

Personally, I don't think Telia will release the app unless it provides at the very least the same basic functionality included in the other phone models they support. If I'm correct and other carriers follow this path (especially in the UK) then your beloved webapp is as good as dead.

nice vaporware :)

When will this app be released.

Ross said...

To Anonymous who said "http://www.iphonemms.net is FAR BETTER than yours!!!" ... I disagree, and I wrote it :) ...

We recognise this and that's why we've also been working on our own native version behind the scenes... I wont get into an argument over whether we or Mobispine were first, because in both cases a lot of work went on "behind closed doors" as it were.

For more information on our native solution please see http://www.iphonemms.net/native-application.html

Yes, for now it's UK only... but, like Mobispine, we invite carriers to discuss the option of providing a better MMS solution for their customers.

Mobispine, I wish you luck with your solution.. There is a place for us both in this diverse market and I'm sure that we have the same goal; to make MMS on the IPhone the user-friendly experience it should be.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like a great solution. Will it let me both send and receive MMS?

Anonymous said...

and when will this be in app store? never?

Anonymous said...

We wait in great anticipation, I check once a week :( I hope Apple are grateful somebody is developing a solution to what is the greatest frustration of the iphone.

Anonymous said...

hahah "vaporware" :D:D:D

The guys at iPhoneMMS.net got theirs in the App Store ... UK only but it's a start and they're looking to get other operators on board.

Is this ever going to come out? I'm soooo sick of waiting... I really doubt it's that hard to set it up. Why can't we just have it now! As much as we rely on technology you think SOMEONE could put it all together. I ditched my Blackberry due to poor HTML emails. The only versions didn't even support it! The browser was horrible and the web pages never looked the same. It did however have GMAIL PUSH! Now, I'm onto the iPhone. Excellent browser and a pretty good application that works well with Gmail... however, no PUSH!. Why can't just one company get it all right?????

Cortland said...

I have an idea! Lets have a phone on our network that doesn't support MMS!!! Great idea! Nobody sends picturemail anyway... C'mon Apple/ATT! Get your shit together!
